Heartbeat Church is affiliated with the Baptist churches of NSW and ACT. We hold to the same Statement of Beliefs that this Association of churches holds to but there are some things that make Heartbeat Church unique and are best summed up in the simple statement that has come to typify our approach to life and ministry – a light to the community and the nations.
This simple statement tells us a lot about who we are at Heartbeat Church but it does need some unpacking.
Light
Heartbeat Church believes in a kingdom mindset so when we say we are a light to the community and the nations it needs to be said we indeed only reflectors of the true light of the world, Jesus Christ (John 8:12) and we are indeed only one small light among many.
There are many other churches and Christian organisations that shed the light of Christ into our community, our nation and around the globe. Heartbeat Church’s kingdom mindset sees us supporting and partnering with other like-minded organisations for the good of the kingdom of God. They include:
- The Baptist Union of NSW & ACT – who we are affiliated with.
- Mission organisations working locally and overseas such as SIM, OMF and OM
- Indigenous overseas mission and aid organisations like Deepgruh Foundation working amongst the Korku and Bhil people of Central India
Community
Heartbeat Church believes in the value of our community both inside the church and outside the church. We seek to build significant and authentic relationships inside the church so that we may all grow in maturity in Christ (Ephesians 4:13). We love and value the community we are called to serve also and do so principally through:
- Our school, Regents Park Christian School
- Our community care arm, Heartbeat Community Care
- Various other ministries serving the Christian community and the wider community like our Healing and Deliverance ministry, our Mums and Bubs playgroup and our ESL ministry.
Nations
Heartbeat Church is a multi-ethnic church. People from all around the globe call this their spiritual home. We respect the backgrounds and cultures of all the people of Heartbeat church and are seeking to physically demonstrate the reality of Colossians 3:11 which says, Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
Supporting overseas mission work among other nations is in the very DNA of our church so from time to time our members minister overseas as we seek to support our mission partners and develop relationships to strengthen and encourage them in their service.
The nations are on our doorstep too where people from many religious and cultural backgrounds live. Our message to them is clear, Jesus Christ is the only Saviour of all the world. We seek to communicate that message sensitively but with clarity and compassion not only through what we say but through how we live.
Finally, Heartbeat Church believes this church should be a Spirit-led church. Christ has given us his Spirit as our guide. His Spirit enables us to know who Jesus is, convicts us of sin, gifts us supernaturally with gifts for service and sanctifies us through convicting us and challenging us to love and serve Jesus more and more. We love the Holy Spirit and have a high doctrine of the Spirit.
This means we love it when the Spirit moves. We don’t always understand what he does we can’t dictate what he does or when he moves, but we believe we can discern when he is moving through, through the outworking of various gifts of the Spirit (Romans 12:3-8, 1 Corinthians 12:8-10, 28 & Ephesians 4:11), from the fruit He grows in our lives (Galatians 5:22-23) and from various manifestations of the Spirit that will build up and edify the church.
